KXMS SUPPORTS SMOKEBUSTERS
Smokebusters Brings Important Message to MSSU
KXMS participated in the Smokebusters program at MSSU on January 27. Janice Dunaway and her staff drove home an important anti-smoking message to area high-schoolers, and we could not be more supportive of their mission. Good work, Smokebusters.
In related news... A House bill just proposed by Rep. Walter Bivins, R-St. Louis County, would make it illegal to smoke in enclosed public places like bars and restaurants, and certain outdoor venues — in and within 15 feet of playgrounds and bus stops, for example.

The Klassix Society Presents 2010 Food & Wine Tasting Benefit
Annual KXMS Food & Wine Tasting Benefit Scheduled for Friday, April 9
The Klassix Society is busy preparing for the 17th Annual Food & Wine Tasting at the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce. All proceeds benefit 88.7KXMS, which, like many fine arts radio stations, struggles with reduced budgeting while striving to provide exceptional service to the audiences of the Four States. The ticket price ($20/person) remains low, allowing virtually everyone to attend and show their support of Fine Arts Radio International.

RADIO SURVEY
You Like Us, You Really Like Us...
Survey results have been coming in gradually, both on-line (see SURVEY below), and through the recent mailing to the Klassix Society membership. Peter Van De Graaff (pictured left) and Bill McGlaughlin are treasured by our listenership (and by us). While most criticisms center around the 'The Classical Station,' these mentioned shortcomings really have to do with issues involving staffing and budget, both unhappily affected in these lean budget times. Nearly all issues raised can be remedied with enough financial support. It is really only a matter of partnered committment.
Our goal is simple: to be a class act. If we sound smart, MSSU appears to be a smart place, too. The real question is, will you help us be a first-class act?

Musical News & Notes
'Smiling Faces' American Express TV Ad
Listeners of 88.7KXMS will most likely recognize J.S. Bach's Prelude from the Suite for Cello solo No. 1 in G (abbreviated) as the musical backdrop of the 'Smiling Faces' ad produced for American Express' new TV campaign.
This cello piece has been heard in numerous television ads through the years, but the Robert Burkhart (left) recording picked by Amex is especially pleasing in its performance and recorded acoustics.
Robert Burkhart's homepage can be viewed by clicking on his photo. Click on the title above to play the YouTube video of Amex's new classy and classical ad.
