2000 Fine Arts Radio International Contest Winner
Mr. Music
Wins Inaugural Fine Arts Radio International Contest Prize
Edward Tarte, a math teacher at Kingwood High School in the Houston, Texas area, is the winner of the Fine Arts Radio International Award 2000 for his series of programs he calls Mr. Music. Originally produced for students at Kingwood High School, Mr. Tarte marketed the series nationally to classical radio stations early in the spring of 2000.
Some of the judges' comments were...
"...listenable and the choice of music seemed good for the average
student...The comments on Haydn's 100th Symphony were excellent."
"...Mr.
Tarte is sensitive to good program skills in that he presents musical
selections with variety in each program... I felt Mr. Tarte's 'Mr. Music'
concerts were of exceptional EXCELLENT quality."
"...Bravo 'Mister
Music'! I found your presentation to be a 'breath of fresh air.' You present in
a very soothing and relaxed manner; however, your passion for the music is
obvious...Congratulations Mr. Tarte your efforts do not go
unnoticed!"
"...the program exhibits a well-considered mix of music and
commentary...in the main, the 'Mr. Music' concept and general production
exhibits precisely those attributes that the Klassix Society had in mind when
the Fine Arts Radio International Awards were first envisioned. Mr. Tarte's
outreach through these programs is to be highly commended."
The annual Fine Arts Radio International® Awards contest recognizes radio programs or radio series containing a substantial amount of classical music education. Entries do not need to be instructional in nature, but the educational component cannot be incidental to the overall tone of the program or series. Check out our Classical Music Education Clearinghouse page for valuable links to programs and educational supplements.
The inaugural Fine Arts Radio International® Lifetime Achievement Award has been bestowed on Karl Haas, producer and host of the long-running radio series, Adventures in Good Music.
