Society of Professional Journalists Essay Contest Results Announced

The winning entry in the Southwest Missouri Pro Chapter for the 2012 Society of Professional Journalists High School Essay contest came from a student at Dixon High School, Nicole Noonan. It now moves on to the national office for judging in the national competition.
This year’s theme was “Why is it important that we have news media that are independent of the government?” Students from throughout the region submitted entries. The Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University served as the host for the regional competition.
The Society of Professional Journalists is the nation’s largest journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
