Opportunities

Broadcast students have the opportunity to explore television and video production from the moment they arrive at Missouri Southern, There's no need to wait for upper-class rank to work at the television station. KGCS provides the opportunity for students in the field of broadcasting.

Experience

Student gain valuable hands-on experience in all areas of televison, including production work, video shooting and editing, or on-camera work. Broadcast students are able to learn and apply the skills needed to succeed in today's field.

KGCS is proud to have a long list of students who worked at the station and completed their degrees at Missouri Southern. Graduates are found working in broadcasting from coast-to-coast, as well as in prominent local positions.  Job titles reflect the wide variety of opportunities for graduates, including:

Station Background

Missouri Southern began television operations in 1984, as a service of the Department of Communication. Programming initially appeared on the Joplin cable TV system. In 1988, the station expanded to over-the-air broadcasting. The station upgraded to a digital broadcast signal in 2008, serving the region. KGCS is one of the few University-run broadcast stations in Missouri.  The broadcast signal reaches more than 167,000 households. Missouri Southern students gain valuable hands-on experience at KGCS, working alongside and receiving training from staff and faculty members.
