INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PERFORMANCE AWARD
The International Student Performance Award Competition is open to international
students after completion of one semester at MSSU. The International
Student Performance Award is made available only to non-immigrant students
on F-1 visas who are ineligible to receive federal funding. The International
Student Performance Award is made available only to full-time, degree-seeking
students at Missouri Southern State University. The student must be
in status as determined by the Iinternational Student Advisor in order
to receive an International Student Performance Award.
DEADLINE: The deadline for applications for Fall 2009
awards is April 10, 2009. The deadline for Spring 2010 awards is December
5, 2009. Exact deadlines will be set each semester, and students are
encouraged to apply early. Due to the fact that the International Institute
and the other departments require time for planning work schedules,
applications submitted after the set deadlines will only be considered
on a case by case basis.
Funds will be awarded to students on a competitive basis, using academic
achievement and the overall quality of the application as the guidelines
for evaluation. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
Awards will be applied against the student’s MSSU account; the
amount of the International Student Performance Award cannot exceed
the balance of unpaid tuition on the student’s account.
There are two categories of awards – $362.50 (50 hours) and $543.75
(75 hours) due to the minimum wage increase to $7.25/hr on July 24,
2009. The amount of the award will be determined by the Institute of
International Studies. In the case where the unpaid balance on the student’s
account is below $362.50, the amount of the award will be adjusted accordingly.
Students who wish to reapply for the International Student Performance
Award must do so by submitting a new application each semester. If the
student has received an award in the past, he or she must submit a recommendation
from the supervising faculty member in lieu of an essay.
Before a student can be considered for a renewal of an International
Student Performance Award, all time sheets must be submitted to the
Secretary of the Institute of International Studies, WH 337C.
Work assignments for the International Student Performance Awards are
made at the discretion of the Institute of International Studies.
DEPARTMENTAL PERFORMANCE AWARDS
Departmental performing awards require the recipient to participate
in the activities stipulated by the awarding department. These awards
are on a competitive basis to students who qualify. Applicants are required
to submit a formal application and may be required to submit a portfolio
of information or audition for the award.
Recipients must be enrolled
as a full-time student (12 credit hours) and must meet the departmental
required Grade Point Average (GPA) in order to reapply for the awards.

Student Aid, however, they are encouraged to apply. These awards are
