Student comments about Dr. Ruth Behar

“I really liked how she presented pictures at the end that showed the dynamics of Cuban culture. And Dr. Behar is so intelligent and cultured. It's so great that she has such a love and appreciation for Cuba and its culture. She has visited there more than 35 times - more times that she can remember, in fact - she must love it! Each time I attend an event this semester, I find myself wanting to travel to Cuba even more than I did before. And this event was no exception.” - Allison Rosewicz

“What was interesting for me was the mixture of a poem and her experiences that she described in it. At the beginning I thought it was a poem, and when she went on it became clear that she was talking about her Cuba experiences. I think she is an extraordinary person, especially due to the fact that she finds herself in this Cuban-American paradox seeking her roots. I also liked the self-reflexive method which she used to discover and describe Cuba and the Cuban people.” - Alice Hossain

“I really enjoyed her poetry. I have always admired a writer who can use a small amount of mundane words to describe a very deep message.” - Virginia Fairchild

“Of all of Dr. Behar's presentations, I really enjoyed her film, Adio Kerida. One certainly does not think about Spanish/Jewish enclaves in the Caribbean very often. I for one had no idea they were there, which made for a very interesting story.” - Jonathan BeVille
