Alberto Coll “I thought he was amazing! I loved listening to him he was so interesting. His life was so unreal to hear about. I can't believe where he is today. He really was very motivational to me. No matter what situation you are in, something great can come out of it.” – Liz Scheurich “What an inspiration! He is such a well-spoken man and an interesting person to listen to. A person can tell, just by listening to some of his opinions, that he is a well-read man. His point-of-view is somewhat unique in that he has lived the ‘American way’ for most of his life and yet he still hasn't forgotten his roots.” – Virginia Fairchild “It was a pleasure to listen to Dr. Coll's eloquent speech. I liked that he did not only talk about dry politics and abstract theories about the future of Cuba, but rather gave vivid, real-life examples. He has the ability to make people understand Cuba’s politics and moreover combines his huge knowledge with colorful examples.” – Alice Hossain “I thoroughly enjoyed, and appreciated, the lectures from Coll and Alvarado during the Gockel Symposium. I attended both the morning and evening sessions, and I have to say that both men were probably some of the most intelligent and well-spoken (especially Coll) speakers Missouri Southern has ever hosted. What I appreciated most about their speeches was how they tried to present themselves as unbiased as possible. Coll, for example, was born and raised during his childhood in Cuba. But he now considers himself an American. His speeches didn’t just bash either the American or Cuban governments. He presented the strengths and weaknesses of both sides, while successfully getting his point across. Both men made it clear: American policy toward Cuba must change, and Cuba’s governments must make some concessions in order for life in Cuba to improve.” – Allison Rosewicz “I found the speaker Dr. Coll to be very informative. He really opened my eyes to some of the beauty and struggles in Cuba.” – Melissa Tabor “He [Dr. Coll] would give great hope to anyone in his presence. I felt honored to be amongst the crowd at Taylor.” – Merrie Tang “I liked how he [Dr. Alberto Coll] moved around the stage and knew his information well enough to actually be able to inform the audience and make it interesting. I enjoyed this symposium and I hope we get more speakers like Dr. Coll to come to MSSU.” – Jana Smith |
