I would like to thank the Institute of International Studies at Missouri Southern for encouraging me to see the world for myself. If it wasn’t for this support, my educational path would be vastly different.

Thank you to the Kenneth and Margaret McCaleb for the lifetimes of the promotion of peace. You have inspired and enabled countless students to see faces and stories instead of only textbooks. I don’t have words to describe how grateful I am.

Thank you to Dr. Ree Wells for your advisement. Seven months after I showed up in your office with a ragged proposal, I was flying to Delhi. The encouragement was priceless.

Thank you to Dr. William Kumbier, Chris Jude, and Dr. Chad Stebbins for keeping an eye out for me.

Thank you to Ryan and Tiana for keeping me safe in a foreign place. I couldn’t have asked for better travel buddies or family. And Margaret — for taking care of the bungalow I left in a mess and for the pep-talks on the other side of the world.
