Faculty – Graphic Designer. Assistant Professor full-time tenure-track position teaching upper division graphics courses including design and production for commercial print, typography, web design, package design, illustration, and computer graphics. Secondary responsibilities include oversight of Mac computer graphics lab with Adobe software. Other departmental/university responsibilities include campus governance, academic advising, and being involved with program planning, assessment, student organizations, and curriculum development. The appointment will be contingent upon the availability of funds and is scheduled to begin August 2010. Screening will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected.

Requirements: MFA with concentration in graphic design or related area. Applicant should possess an enthusiasm and commitment to undergraduate teaching, a desire to develop, and maintain a strong graphics program, and an active design career as evidenced by current work and record. Preference will be given to applicants with previous university teaching experience, who could contribute to the department or university international programming, and are broadly trained to teach a range of traditional and contemporary media, techniques, materials, issues, and concepts in graphic design.

Applicants should submit a letter of application addressing qualifications; curriculum vita; a statement of teaching philosophy, artist statement, CD-Rom or DVD with a list of works, 20 images of current personal work and 10-20 samples of student works in .jpg or .pdf formats, and three recent references with complete contact information. General Information: The energetic Missouri Southern State University Art Department includes a large permanent study collection of African Art and offers faculty an opportunity to lead the department’s five-week Summer in Sweden Study Abroad Program. MSSU has an enrollment of about 5,500 and is situated in southwest Missouri. Joplin is the hub of a 4 state area with cultural amenities, outdoor recreational activities, two large health care systems and a network of east-west and north-south highways. Faculty – Art Historian Position teaching Art Survey and a full range of other Art History courses including Art Theory and The History of Graphic Design. Secondary responsibilities include oversight of Art Appreciation curriculum and teaching of Writing Intensive and Honors sections in this subject area. Other responsibilities include student advising and being involved with program planning, assessment, and curriculum development. The appointment will be contingent upon the availability of funds and is scheduled to begin August 2010. Screening will begin April 2 and continue until a qualified candidate is selected.

Requirements: PH. D. or ABD candidates in Art History will be considered. Applicant should possess an enthusiasm and commitment to undergraduate teaching. Preference will be given to applicants with previous university teaching experience, who could contribute to the department or university international programming, broad training in Art History, and ability to expand our departmental distance learning offerings. Candidates with interest or specialization in African Art or the Art of Scandinavia are especially encouraged to apply.
