Missouri Southern is affiliated with the National Collegiate Honors Council, The Great Plains Honors Council, and the national honor societies Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Chi. Most Honors students have the opportunity to participate in the activities of these organizations and to attend other regional and national conferences.
The NCHC states the following about itself:
The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) is the professional
association of undergraduate Honors programs and colleges; Honors
directors and deans; and Honors faculty, staff, and students. NCHC
provides support for institutions and individuals developing,
implementing, and expanding Honors education through curriculum
development, program assessment, teaching innovation, national and
international study opportunities, internships, service and leadership
development, and mentored research.
The Great Plains Honors Council serves collegiate honors programs in
Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. Coordinating
its activities with the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC), the Great Plains organization promotes the flow of information, ideas, fellowship and professional encouragement throughout its member programs.
The NCHC has a page providing information about college Honors Programs for High School Students, Parents and Counselors. You are invited to take a look at this page, and compare what you find with what MSSU has to offer. Then decide for yourself how Southern's Honors Program compares.
