Heartland PTAC Receives APTAC Economic Impact Award
- JOPLIN, MO (SNS) - Missouri Southern State University's (MSSU's) Heartland Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) received the Economic Impact Award this year at the annual conference conducted by the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC). APTAC is the national organization of which the majority of the procurement centers are members.
- The MSSU Heartland PTAC was nominated due to its unique efforts and its successes with assisting businesses in obtaining federal government contracts for recovery of the Joplin area shortly after the May 22, 2011, tornado. Local area business clients of the MSSU Heartland PTAC were able to secure over $52,000,000 in government contract awards.
- PTACs are funded in part by the federal government and by their host institutions through a cooperative agreement. A host institution may be a university, state or local government, college, or non-profit organization. There are approximately ninety-five PTACs throughout the United States.
- Heartland PTAC is an outreach program of MSSU. The services Heartland PTAC provide are helping businesses with their federal, state and local government contracting efforts.
- Last year, the MSSU Heartland PTAC assisted clients in receiving 348 contracts totaling over $236,000,000. Since inception in 1995, the PTAC has assisted its clients with receiving over $1,177,000,000 in contracts.
- The types of services the PTAC provides includes, to name a few, a bid-searching system which is done electronically; help in bid preparation by assisting businesses in understanding forms, regulations, clauses, representations and certifications; assists with the various government registrations; provides price histories; conducts training such as conferences and workshops; and provides military specifications and standards.
- Every year, federal, state and local governments spend billions of dollars on goods and services. Government buyers may be looking for what you have -- quality products at competitive prices from responsible suppliers willing to participate in contracts. Federal purchasing offices are often required to "set aside" contracts or portions of contracts for exclusive bidding by small and/or minority owned businesses. Major prime contractors are required to subcontract part of their work out to small firms.
