In continued efforts to broaden the scope of music and culture available to the residents of the four-state area, Missouri Southern State University and the Missouri Southern Foundation are working to raise $25,000 to create a Steel Drum Ensemble. The ensemble will be comprised of 15-20 people, and will start at the World Music Festival in the spring of 2014.
Student and Community Benefits:
Educational outreach will include going into schools and bringing children on campus for after-school activities as part of the World Percussion Academy.
Music students will broaden their expertise to better prepare them for successful careers.
Area musicians and interested individuals will be able to play with the ensemble, building their connection to the arts.
Community members across the region will have the opportunity to enjoy performances both on and off campus, diversifying their education and exposure to other cultures.
