"I teach UE 100 because of the personal connection I am able to form with my students. I get to know them on a much more personal level than I can in my other classes." Dr. Marsi Archer, Chemistry
"It is so rewarding to play a role in a freshman really connecting to Southern. Relationships are formed in UE 100 that last through graduation. My students know they can come to me with questions at any time during their academic journeys." Natalie Bruce, ACTS
To apply, please complete the following application and return it to the FYE Office by Friday, November 20. Contact Dr. Susan Craig by e-mail or phone at 625-9731 if you have questions.

Interested in Being a UE 100 Peer Mentor?
Peer mentors work with an instructor to teach a UE 100 course to new MSSU students. The FYE office is recruiting students to work as peer mentors during the fall 2010 semester. To qualify, students must have at least 60 credit hours at the beginning of the fall 2010 semester and must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Being a peer mentor has several benefits including:
- earn 3 credit hours of upper-division electives paid for by MSSU!
- earn a $250 stipend
- gain leadership experience and enhance your communication skills (looks great on a resume or graduate school application!)
- share your expertise with first year students and make a difference in their lives!
Students selected to be peer mentors will be asked to enroll in a training course during the spring 2010 semester. Students may choose from one of the following times:
8:30-9:20 AM Tuesday
1:00-1:50 PM Wednesday
The training course is a hybrid. The first eight weeks are on-line.
To apply, print an application and return it to the FYE Office in Hearnes 209. The deadline has been extended to Friday, December 4. If you have any questions, contact Dr. Susan Craig in the FYE Office at craig-s@mssu.edu or 625-9731.
