MSSU First Year Experience Program

Dual Credit Program

The Dual Credit program at MSSU provides an opportunity for students to take classes and earn high school and college credit at the same time. Students generally participate in Dual Credit in one of the following ways:

  • High Schools articulate agreements with MSSU to offer courses on their campuses with qualified high school teachers OR MSSU Faculty members as the instructors.
  • MSSU provides courses to high schools or a host site via distance learning (i.e. SITV, DVD)

Student Eligibility

To be considered for the Dual Credit program, a high school student must:

  • have completed the sophomore year
  • have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4 point scale)
  • meet all the requirements and prerequisites for a course as those required of an on-campus student
  • score at proficient or above on the MAP or an equivalent score on a comparable assessment
  • be pursuing a state-designated college preparatory high school curriculum
  • have the recommendation of the high school counselor or the principal's designee

Applying for the Dual Credit Program

Students who wish to take dual credit courses on should complete an Application for Admission to the Dual Credit Program. The application must be submitted to the First Year Experience Office at least one month prior to the beginning of each semester. There is a one-time $15 application fee that should be submitted with the application form. Students (and their parents if the students are under 21) must also sign and submit a Certification Form indicating understanding of Dual Credit policies. Students taking courses via ITV must also complete and sumbit an Image Release Form.

Several area high schools have articulated Dual Credit agreements with MSSU. If you attend one of the following high schools, please visit with your school counselor about applying for Dual Credit opportunities with MSSU.

  • Carthage High School
  • Crane High School
  • Golden City High School
  • Joplin High School
  • McAuley High School
  • Monett High School
  • Webb City High School
