MSSU First Year Experience Program

Academic Advising

MSSU has a campus wide commitment to effective academic advising. We understand that working on a college degree is a new experience and our advisors are committed to providing the best advice about course selection, sequence, and combination. Within the first few weeks of your first semester, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will work with you one-on-one to discuss your unique plan.

Academic Support

Making the grade is critical for your success and MSSU has several programs in place to help. Do you need some additional assistance in your math course? Our Learning Center offers free tutoring services provided by trained peer tutors. The First Year Experience Office organizes Learning Communities so you can take courses with others in the same major and form study groups. If you experience academic difficulty, the Advising, Counseling, and Testing office offers the PASS program to help you make the right choices and get back on track. At MSSU, you can depend on a high level of support and care during your first year and beyond.

Social Engagement

University life isn't always about studying. Going to college is also about having fun and making memories with lifelong friends. As soon as you are accepted to the University, you are encouraged to begin connecting with other students through the First Year Experience Facebook site. Campus Craze is an excellent campus tradition where first year students gather the night before class for food, fun, and a walking tour of campus. MSSU also has eighty-four student organizations registered with our Student Activities Office. You can choose from academic, religious, greek, and special interest clubs. Getting involved in campus life is important and there is a place for everyone at MSSU!

Career Development

There is no doubt that higher education is valuable. In fact, someone with a four-year college degree can expect to earn double the salary of someone with a high school diploma over a lifetime. But, what if you are not sure about the right career path for you? MSSU offers several Career and Life Planning courses designed to help you determine the career that best matches your interests, values, and goals.
