SEXUAL HARASSMENT Sexual harassment directed at an individual can create an uncomfortable or even hositle work or educational environment for everyone. Sexual harassment continues in any environment when those who are aware of it do not intervene (IAW EEO 1983).
Sexual harassment is legally defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when (1) submitting to such conduct is made a term of an individual's employment or education (2) submitting to or rejecting such conduct is used in making decisions about an individual's employment or education, or (3) the conduct unreasonably interferes with an individual's work or education performance or creates a hostile environment.
Sexual harassment violates the policy of MSSU. It also violates Title VII and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act and may violate state and local laws. MSSU does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, origin, ancestry, sex, age, disability, status as disabled veteran, veteran of the Vietnam era, or sexual orientatiuon. Sexual harassment will not be tolerated. Consider the following options:
- Tell the harasser to stop.
- Seek an informal resolution getting the Director of Forensics involved.
- Seek an informal resolution getting the Department Chairperson involved.
- Consider seeking a formal resolution with the EEOC representative on campus.
