Brenda J. Kilby teaches Mass Communication and Public Relations at Missouri Southern State University. She is the faculty adviser for the Public Relations Student Society of America at, and has served as an assistant adviser for the school s award-winning student newspaper, The Chart. She previously taught English and journalism at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Ark., and at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. She was a news correspondent for the Tulsa World from 1994-2000, covering northwest Arkansas, and worked in the public relations departments of the former Bates Memorial Hospital in Bentonville and Springdale Memorial Hospital of Springdale, Ark. (now Northwest Health Systems). From 1992-94 she covered city and court news for the Benton County Daily Record in Bentonville. From 1983-1987 she was an advertising representative for the Daily Record and the Weekly Vista of Bella Vista, Ark. She received a bachelor s degree in English education and communication from Missouri Southern State University in 1989, and a master s degree in English in 1991 from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She is working toward a Ph.D. in Public Policy at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, studying the impact of recent population growth on the infrastructure, government and social systems of McDonald County, Mo. Currently, Kilby is also chair of the board of trustees at the McDonald County Library, headquartered in Pineville, Mo.

Publications & Presentations
- Study Abroad Fair, November, 2002, 2003. My public relations writing class planned and carried out the study abroad fair in Billingsly Student Center. In addition, I created a large pictoral display of Paris to use in recruiting students for the International Media Seminar. In 2004 we also assisted other professors in preparing displays, etc.
- Paris Travelogue, May, 2002. Organized students in presenting a program about their trip to Paris over spring break. This included showing a video one of the students created and a panel discussion by participants. The presentation was made in Webster Hall Auditorium before a College-wide audience.
- Grassroots Editor , 2000, 2001. I edited and wrote articles for the quarterly journal published by the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors (ISWNE) from spring to fall, 2001. I also wrote an article for the fall, 2000 issue of the publication.
