Dr. Carolyn Hale, Professor of Speech Communication has taught for 44 years. A specialist in Intercultural Communication, Dr. Hale has lived among the Eskimos, acted in plays, had exhibitions of her paintings both here and abroad, researched Irish oral literature, and has studied and taught around the world. She has a B.A. in Speech and Theatre from Abilene Christian College; an M.A. in Speech Communication and a Ph.D. in Speech Communication with an emphasis in British and Irish Public Address and a Minor in Philosophy, both from the University of Oklahoma. She also has a B.A. in Art History from the University of Maryland, European division in Heidelberg, Germany; has done post-graduate study in Art History at the University of North Texas. She has been a secondary school teacher in Lamesa, Texas, and in the Patchogue School District of Long Island, New York. She has taught at the University of Chicago, Illinois Circle, West Texas State University, the University of Alaska, Northwestern Louisiana State University, the University of Maryland, European and Asian divisions; the Rochester Institute of Technology; and most recently at the University of Cincinnati. Finally, she is an animal activist, rosarian, and arborist.
