Dr. Carolyn Hale teaches Speech Communication. A specialist in Intercultural Communication, Dr. Hale has lived among the Eskimos, acted in plays, had exhibitions of her paintings both here and abroad, researched Irish oral literature, and has studied and taught around the world. She has a B.A. in Art History from the University of Maryland, European division in Heidelberg, Germany; has done post-graduate study in Art History at the University of North Texas; has a B.A. in Speech and Theatre from Abilene Christian College; an M.A. in Speech Communication and a Ph.D. in Speech Communication, both from the University of Oklahoma. She has been a secondary school teacher in Lamesa, Texas, and in the Patchogue School District of Long Island, New York. She has taught at the University of Chicago, West Texas State University, the University of Alaska, Northwestern Louisiana State University, the University of Maryland, European and Asian divisions; the Rochester Institute of Technology; and most recently at the University of Cincinnati.

The Third Annual Artist s Reception & Art Show by sponsored by Ozarks Public Television and Joplin Museum Complex. Three pieces of art work submitted and accepted. Photographs of Ireland and Northern Ireland. March 1-March 16, 2003.

The McCaleb Peace Initiative Award with student Monicca Shanthanelson. Satyagraha. May 2001. Research has been conducted for a year on this India project. The student is currently in India doing interviews at the Gandhi Peace Centers (January 2002).
June 2000 Sasakawa Fellowship Competition Award by the Japanese Studies Institute at San Diego State California. Full expenses paid. A National Faculty Development Institute Award (22 selected in the U.S.A.)
