Fraternities,
sororities recruit members Staff Writer Within
the student body at Missouri Southern exists four groups of students who
share the common bond of sisterhood and brotherhood. These
students dedicate a week early in the fall semester to encourage others
to share the same experience. Signs are posted throughout campus while
members of these sororities and fraternities invite students to Rush
events and recruitment activities. It
is a very important year for Rush, and we are all really excited because
we have been working really hard all summer, said Stacy Howell,
junior Zeta Tau Alpha. It
is an important year for the Greek Community as it works to increase the
participation and enthusiasm for Greek Life at Southern. The
sororities on campus, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Zeta Tau Alpha, team up
during Rush Week, which took place Sept. 3-6. Women interested in
joining one of the sororities attended the events in order to get to
know the members of each sorority and participate in activities. As the
week progressed, the interested persons had the opportunity to decide
which group of they had most in common with. The rushees decide
which sorority they would like to join, and on the last night of Rush
Week, called Bid Day, rushees find out which sorority they have been
invited to join. The
fraternities took an entirely different approach in learning more about
their potential brothers. From August 24 through Sept. 5, Kappa Alpha
held various recruitment activities for all male students interested in
joining a fraternity. Activities such as paintball, barbecues and
bowling offered a chance to get to know the men of Kappa Alpha. Sigma
Pi has also offered recruitment activities since August 29 and will
finish on Wednesday. We
have a lot of younger guys rushing this year than we have in the
past, said John Daigle, Sigma Pi senior. We are excited about
that. The
Greek community targets freshmen to join its organizations. When
freshmen join a sorority or fraternity, they bring new ideas. Sigma Pi
has sponsored activities such as golf, sand volleyball and a Casino
night. |
