Students looking to break the daily monotony of going to class might want to check out the Campus Activities Board meetings.

CAB conducts its meetings at noon on Mondays in the Billingsly Student Center, Room 310. The Sept. 23 meeting discussed numerous upcoming events and ideas for activities.

The novelties committee received suggestions for an outdoor movie where students could bring blankets and watch a movie projected on a building, a scavenger hunt, and a talent show that would last a week to get more people involved.

They re fun and enthusiastic,  said Bredshadt DiEre, junior computer information science major.

Kat Dzidic, junior psychology, sociology and French major, suggested attending plays and dances outside of Missouri Southern to provide students with cultural experiences.

Concert committee chair, David Kenny, announced a definite date for an outdoor concert on campus. A rap group and two other groups will perform from 7:30-10 or 10:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the tennis courts by the residence halls. Mr. Green from Springfield, Mo., and Sell Out from Lawrence, Kan., are the two opening groups.

Lectures committee chair, Jeremy Sturgell, announced CAB has booked Scott Ritter, the United Nations weapons inspector for Iraq, to speak. Ritter is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 in Taylor Auditorium.

Also, Dr. Phillip Wise, music department head, has requested to bring a Jazz pianist to Southern to do demonstrations and classes for students. Kelvin Scholar is the Jazz pianist to perform at the College, and Scholar will also play with Southern s Jazz Orchestra. This event is scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2003. The total cost of expenses is $1,000 - $600 for performance fees and $400 for lodging unless other lodging can be provided.

The family events committee suggested a Halloween skate party for Homecoming week. The Webb City skating rink will be reserved for Southern students, parents and families. There will be prizes given away for the best Halloween costume. This event was held at the end of spring break 2002 with 45 in attendance. It was suggested this event should be better attended because of Halloween.

Matt Hite, Homecoming committee chair, asked for volunteers to help with building the CAB float, setting up displays on campus and bringing more ideas for Homecoming events. Work on the CAB float takes place the weekend of Oct. 26-27.

Novelties committee chair, Michelle Boley, discussed final ideas for activities during Homecoming week. There is to be a photo generator for Monday, Oct. 28; Fun Flicks (make your own music video) Tuesday, Oct. 29; and a game show,  Think Fast,  with a $250 cash prize Wednesday, Oct. 30. Boley also mentioned the CAB Web page was to be up and running the week of Sept. 23.

The next CAB meeting is scheduled for noon Monday in the BSC.
