ACP
awards The Chart Associate Editor Procedures
for the Student Senate allocation of funds have been changed this year,
Andrew McGowan, treasurer, announced at the body s first meeting Sept.
18. Allocations
for campus organizations this year will be limited to $100 per student,
not to exceed $1,000. Last year, $1,000 was the maximum amount allocated
per organization, regardless of the number of students participating. McGowan
said he changed the guideline in order the stretch the Senate s money
longer into the semester, and to make allocations fairer for all
organizations. We ve
talked about doing this for quite a while, but we didn t put it on the
books until this summer, said McGowan, who served on the finance
committee last year. We have had five or six clubs already turning in
applications requests 9-10 thousand (dollars). Zach
Odem, president, said the Senate has $17,000 available for total
allocation this semester - the same amount as last year. Traditionally,
the Senate is given an extra $8,000 for allocations in January. Odem
said he hopes to expand the Senate s mission this year. He said his
goal is to sponsor activities increasing campus pride and
involvement, as well as community service. In
the past, our main focus has been the allocation of funds, he said.
That s still going to be a big part of what we do, but we re
going to try to do more things to promote Missouri Southern. The
Senate meets 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the House of Lords Room on the
third floor of the Billingsly Student Center. |
