Activities planned this semester by the Campus Activities Board provide a wide range of diversity to meet students  interests.

At the Sept. 30 CAB meeting, those in attendance saw suggestions become definite. Updates were given from the committees of concerts, lectures, family events, novelties and Homecoming.

A proposal made by Sabrina Tyndall, family events committee chairperson, was to bring in a clown for face painting and balloon animals during Homecoming Week. Estimated cost is $300-$350.

David Kenny, concert committee chairman, updated plans for the Core Project, scheduled for Oct. 18. Opening acts have yet to be finalized. However, preparations for the staging and lighting have been decided. CAB set $500 as the limit to be spent to bring in one local band, which was set at the meeting.

Former United Nations weapons inspector to Iraq, Scott Ritter, is scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 in Taylor Auditorium.

CAB s Web page is fully operational, and Michelle Boley has played a role in its creation. Reminders of events during Homecoming Week were brought up by Boley, including a new suggestion for a drive-in-movie. CAB has the option of purchasing two movies to be displayed on a large outdoor screen, if weather permits. Campus Recreation and Student Activities has provided CAB with this option. The cost to purchase movies is between $250-$650. CAB wants to offer both mature and younger audience movies. Four titles, Triple X, Sorority Boys, Spider-Man and Scooby Doo will be posted on the CAB Web site for voting to narrow the list down to two titles - one for mature and one for younger audiences.

This will be a way for students to vote,  said Julie Blackford, director of student activities.

Matt Hite, chairman of the Homecoming committee, announced to students who signed up for the committee to attend a meeting on Oct. 3.

An issue vital to attendance of CAB-sponsored events is the need for promotion. Blackford encouraged members to help with this to get the word out about events. Blackford also introduced CAB members to a new proposal form, which organizations need to complete with necessary information in order to receive funding and sponsorship by CAB.

It will give [students] incentive,  said Audri Manary, junior nursing and Spanish major.

CAB s next meeting is at noon Monday in Billingsly Student Center, Room 310. Lunch will be provided.
