Activities
board hopes for bigger, more expensive concert Staff Writer
Scott
Ritter s planned visit to Missouri Southern Monday, Oct. 21 was the
main topic at the Campus Activities Board meeting Oct.14. As
a preview for Ritter, a documentary film is planned, introducing the
background of what weapons inspectors for Iraq do. This
is going to be awesome, said Julie Blackford, director of student
activities, for Southern and CAB. Ritter s
appearance is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Performing Arts
Center. CAB Publicity for the event includes flyers and posters on
campus. Jeremy Sturgell, lectures committee chairman, said publicity has
spurred phone calls, including some from local TV stations interested in
covering the event. Homecoming
week was also discussed. The CAB website has been updated with
information on the week s events. The two movies that will be shown
during Homecoming Week are Triple X and Spiderman.
Sabrina
Tyndall, family events committee chair, is responsible for organizing
the Halloween skate night scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Webb City skating
rink. Posters
are up on campus introducing the Core Project. An
announcement of a concert scheduled for Dec. 9-11, will feature Butch
Walker, the former lead singer of Marvelous Three.
The cost for CAB will be between $2,500-$5,000, and tickets will
range in prices from $3 for Southern students, and $5-7 for non-Southern
students. Blackford
said she was concerned that the concert was being held during finals
week, which could affect turnout. I
don t think it will affect student turnout, being finals, said
David Kenny, concert chairman. It is something that will be really
good for CAB and the students. In
other business, CAB nominated sophomore Kristopher Knight and senior
Michelle Boley as Homecoming King and Queen candidates. CAB meets every Monday at noon in Billingsly Student Center, room 310. The next meeting is set for Oct. 21. |
