Store brings convenience to area

Throughout time, businesses come and go, but for the Quick Serve Convenience Store this is not the case.

In August 2002, the Samee's, a convenience store located on the corner of Newman Road and Goetz Boulevard, closed its doors to the public.

The previous owners sold the store to John Dang, an individual not new to owning a business in the Joplin area.

Dang and his wife recently purchased the store and are changing everything. They are changing the inside of the store from the floor plan to the decor and the variety of goods that will be sold.

"If there is something that you want and we do not have it, let us know and we will be happy to get it for you," said Judy Grissom, store manager.

She worked at the convenience store when it was open under the previous owners.

"We are glad to be back," Grissom said.

Dang is also the owner of the Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant located on Range Line Road.

A Golden Dragon Express is located inside the store, offering much of the same foods served at the restaurant.

Dang and his wife decided to buy the store because it was a great location for business since it was close to Southern. They also do not live far away from the business.

Southern students were not affected much by the closing of the convenience store.

"There are a ton of gas stations that are located in Joplin, so when this one closed it really did not bother me," said Brandon Cline, sophomore pre-law major. "It is kind of nice that it is so close to the school. It makes it a lot easier to go to in between classes."

Other students were shocked when they heard the news the station had closed down.

"I didn't really understand why it closed down, with it being so close the College," said Wade Utter, sophomore business administration major.

"I would think that it would have plenty of business. I went there all the time. I'm glad that it reopened," he said.
