A much anticipated rematch against Emporia State University led to a disappointing outcome for the Lady Lions on Oct. 26.

Defeated by Emporia earlier this season, the Lady Lions fell 3-1 in a four game match. Recovering from an illness the previous week, senior Amy Little was back in the game and once again held the game highs.

Little said Emporia did not have a good turnout at their match, and even the referees didn't show up until the second game.

"We definitely did not communicate very well on the floor," Little said. "We allowed them to go on a four or five point running score. After that it was hard to get back."

A victory against Truman State on Nov.1 was a great start to homecoming weekend for the Lady Lions.

"It was nice and really exciting," said Kym Mutert.

Losing to Truman Sept. 13 led the women to fight harder when given a second chance. Truman was ranked 15th in the nation and first in the conference until the Lady Lions victory that bumped Truman out of the No. 1 position.

"Everyone really laid it out on the court and put out effort all weekend," Little said.

Southern won 3-2 with Little holding 24 kills and 26 defensive digs. The Lady Lions are only the second team in the conference that has beaten Truman.

"They walked in overlooking us," Little said. "Truman had a lot of unforced errors."

Another rematch for the Lady Lions against CMSU proved to be unsuccessful. Defeated by the Jennies on Oct. 19, the women lost again 3-1 on Nov. 2. The Lady Lions stayed close during the matches with scores of 30-26, 30-26, 30-22, 30-26.

"Our pursuit wasn't there," Little said. "We had a few unforced errors that were key in the match."

The Lady Lions currently stand at 11-16 for the season.

The women had the week off to prepare for their 7 p.m. game on Tuesday at Southwest Baptist University. The NCAA Division 2 Regionals began Nov. 2 and run through Nov. 23.
