New
complex provides extra room Staff Writer
A
more luxurious way of living will hit Joplin in the next couple months. The
Plaza, located at 1715 Rex Ave., has made many additions to its
apartment complex. No
income or student restrictions will be placed on the new unit, said
Mike Landers, vice president of Bell Management Company. The
additions include 120 units, business area, community building, media
room and sports arena. Each
unit contains lush carpet and ceramic floors, multiple telephone lines
and broadband Internet access. The kitchen comes equipped with an
electric glass top stove, built in microwave and dishwasher, garbage
disposal and refrigerator with ice maker. Each
unit also comes equipped with central heating and air, full-size washer
and dryer hookups, and a private balcony with storage area. The
units are designed to have the maximum amount of privacy, with sound
barriers in the walls, ceilings and floors, not a sound will be heard. The
community building is accessible 24 hours a day and seven days a week. A
pool and Jacuzzi are nearby with a barbecue area next to it. The
sports arena has full-size basketball, tennis and sand volleyball
courts. A
business center with online computers, copiers, and a fax machine with
free local faxes are located in the community building. The
lounge area is furnished and has easy viewing of the pool area. A fully
equipped kitchen with wet bar also is located in the community building. A
state of the art media room has wide-screen projection television with
DVD and VHS player. Also, surround sound and movie theater seating for
up to 12 people is in this room. A
fitness center is connected to the community building with free weights,
treadmills, stationary bikes and stair climbers. A
laundry room with large washers and dryers is also located in the
building and is for residents only. Missouri
Southern students were not excited about the location of the apartments. I
would not want to live behind Wal-Mart, said Melissa Toalson,
sophomore secondary English major. I guess it is more about the
location than anything. The complex expects to show two units on Dec. 1 and hopes to have the units ready to move into by the second semester. |
