Campus board begins planning for spring

Homecoming Week turned out to be a success for many who attended.

Participation and school spirit were two things Campus Activities Board director Julie Blackford wanted to see a change in during Homecoming Week.

Student participation is vital to CAB,  Blackford said.  That s why we re here - to serve the students.

Highlighting on some of the more attended activities, CAB was able to see some school spirit.

Novelties committee chair, Michelle Boley, said every activity was well attended. Some of the more popular activities were the  Think Fast  game show, Picture This and Make Your Own Music Video. The Halloween skate night had approximately 100 in attendance and some 70 children who skated.

CAB received third place in the talent show, with a skit/duet of Captain and Tennille. Other winners included the Koinonia praise band, and Jason Edgar, junior speech communications major, with a comedy interpretation.

Matt Hite, Homecoming committee chair, said CAB being involved  gives us a good name  and  shows the campus we care.

In other business, the main focus is on the spring semester. Going with the five theme weeks of the year, the last two involve Safe Spring Break and Finals Madness.

Blackford, along with other CAB members who attended the leadership conference, brought back some ideas for CAB to consider.

We shop around and try to get the best deal we can,  Blackford said.

Looking at the lack of interest by students, Blackford said there needs to be some pick-me-ups to break the school monotony.

Lectures committee chair, Jeremy Sturgell, said he has ideas for lectures. Some of the topics will include globalization and health care ethics.

CAB wants to encourage all students to get involved, because a portion of the money students pay goes to Student Senate, Student Activities (including CAB), and Crossroads: The Magazine. The amount, which is divided up, totals $25.

We don t want them (students) to feel like they don t have a say in how the money is spent,  Blackford said.  They are welcome to decide.

The next CAB meeting will be at noon on Monday where it will be spent brainstorming and planning for the spring semester.
