Burned out, tired, finally 'in place'
Allison Rosewicz

Editor-in-Chief

Last semester when I was offered the position of editor-in-chief on The Chart, I was scared out of my mind.

I remember asking myself,  How am I going to be a full-time student and take on one of the toughest responsibilities on campus?

I began the semester thinking how exhausted I would be by the end of it. I m not going to lie - I am so ready for this semester to be over. I ve been living for a break from writing and studying for a few months now.

I may be burned out, but thanks to the staff I have worked with on The Chart this year, I haven t lost my mind in a whirlpool of work. After going through the most difficult time of my life last year, these people are the reason I m surviving this year.

In fact, they are the best group of friends I have ever had. All my life I ve felt out-of-place with the people I called friends. Now, for once, I feel more  in-place  than I ever have.

It s pretty cool that a group of people who see each other pretty much 24/7 can get along so well. One would think that by 3 a.m. on a deadline night, we would all be ready to kill each other. But that s not the case. Instead, we re talking about what we re all going to do together on the weekend.

I don t have the space to tell why I love the entire staff so much, but let me take the time to mention the people with whom I work most closely - the editors:

-Jeff Reid, executive editor - my second brother, even though he claims I don t respect him.

-Jerry Manter, managing editor - gives the best greetings when I enter The Chart office.

-Andy Tevis, director of photography - possibly the nicest guy I ve ever met.

-Michelle Conty, public forum editor - big mouth (that s not a bad thing; I respect it, in fact), but a big heart at the same time.

-Jacob Brower, associate editor - understands social anxiety the way I do. You will be missed next semester, man.

-Philip Martin, sports editor - can dance  the sprinkler  better than anyone I know.

-Eric Scott, assistant sports editor - has solely made a vest with Guns  N Roses and Metallica patches the coolest piece of clothing on earth. He will be sorely missed next semester when he returns to Colorado.

-Josh Ray, diversions editor - fellow high school graduate, can take criticism like no one else. Trust me, he s proved that this semester.

-Mandi Steele, international editor - drives my car like no one else can.

-Virginia Fairchild, city editor - shares tissues and hugs with me when times get tough.

A  studly ad duo  also deserves to be on this list:

-Matt Comer ( NY ) - possibly the coolest guy I ve ever met and a pretty knowledgeable music critic, too, especially when it comes to the  80s.

-Matt Caufield - thanks for trusting me so much and for making me laugh so much.

Our publications manager and advertising coach deserve much credit as well:

-Rhonda Clark and Brenda Kilby - although I m sure you re sometimes embarrassed to admit it, you two are our  newspaper moms.

Through friendships with staffers, a few people have even become honorary members of The Chart:

-Becky, Graham, Genna, etc. - you know who you are and why we love you so much.

Before I finish, let me apologize to the staff members I couldn t mention. All of you have made this year s experience a great one.

And now a short plug for our newspaper - I guarantee anyone who joins The Chart will have a similar experience, and like me, find out just how wonderful these people are. We have much fun together and still win awards for a nationally-recognized college newspaper.
