The results of the 2002 survey are in, and the Campus Activities Board is in for some changes.

The CAB polled nearly 200 students on their thoughts about the way the organization was operating, meeting times and a wide range of other subjects in an attempt to customize its operations to better fit the needs of the students.

Hopefully, we can try to accommodate more students,  said Julie Blackford, director of student activities, in regard to the decision to move CAB meetings to 2 p.m. from noon, and hold the meetings in the second floor lounge of Billingsly Student Center.

Students always say that nothing is going on, and that they don t have a voice, and that was the purpose of the survey, so they could let us know what they wanted on campus.

Other results from the survey showed the most popular events were free food giveaways, campus picnics and other free items, along with family-oriented events and lectures. The most popular event was the Scott Ritter lecture in October.

However, many students said they didn t feel welcome at CAB meetings, and they weren t aware the meetings were even open to the public.

We had lots of good feedback from these surveys, so we feel that they were pretty successful,  Blackford said.

In regard to the financial situation, Blackford said CAB is doing well, expense wise. The Board started out with approximately $50,000, and while a few big budget items have set CAB back, including the Scott Ritter lecture and Homecoming Week, Blackford thinks the organization is in about the right spot.

We re sitting pretty well,  Blackford said.  We haven t overspent, and we haven t underspent.

On the agenda for the Nov.18 meeting, CAB discussed plans for the spring semester, including what activities to bring in and when.

Weighing heavy on the spring semester budget is the possibility of purchasing a new projection and sound system to further enhance movie night.

The system, which is expected to cost around $4,000, would be purchased toward the end of the spring semester, but not until after numerous prices have been checked.

We re looking to spend around $4,000, but we re going to shop around and try to get the best deal possible,  Blackford said.

CAB meetings are held at noon in the BSC, Room 310, and will change to 2 p.m. in the second floor lounge of the BSC at the start of the spring semester.
