On-Campus Interviews

On-Campus Interviews at MSSU

Recruiters from many companies and organizations visit MSSU periodically to interview students for internships and full-time, entry level positions which begin after graduation. Dates and qualifications for interviews can be found by searching for on-campus interview opportunities on the Southern Job Network, or you may call our office for updated information. You must have a resume uploaded to the Southern Job Network in order to apply for on-campus interviews.

STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION IN ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEWS

To participate in on-campus interviews, you:
  • Must be completing a Missouri Southern State University degree or you must be a graduate of the university (alumni).
  • Must register, create a profile, and upload a current resume onto the Southern Job Network.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements specified by the employer (major, GPA, graduation date, etc.).
  • Must schedule your own interviewing appointment through the Southern Job Network by following the instructions on the website.

Cancellation & No-Show Policy
  • If it is necessary to cancel, please do so as far in advance as possible, but no later than 2 working days before the interview. Interview spots are in high demand, and your early cancellation will give other MSSU students an opportunity to meet with the employer.
  • If you need to cancel, call (417) 625-9343 or stop by Career Services (2nd Floor of Spiva Library, Room 207).
  • Late Cancellation is any cancellation received on the working day before or on the day of the interview.
  • No-Show is failure to honor a scheduled appointment without prior cancellation.
  • In the case of a late cancellation or no-show, you will forfeit your interviewing privileges until you write a Letter of Explanation to the employer and submit a copy of that letter to the Career Services office to be mailed.

Before the Interview
  • Prepare Yourself: Practice interview questions. Think of examples of your skills, abilities and interests. If you feel unprepared for your interview, schedule an appointment with Career Services. We will be glad to answer questions or even conduct a mock interview.
  • Research the Company: Never interview with a company without researching that company first. Libraries may have information, but the internet should also provide you with the information you need.
  • Formulate several questions to ask the recruiter: View questions to ask at the end of an interview. Rehearse these questions in your mind prior to interviewing. It is OK to bring written questions to the interview. NEVER mention salary, time off or benefits at a 1st interview. Your questions should focus on topics such as future goals, work environment, training, etc.
  • Information Sessions: Many employers conduct information sessions prior to conducting interviews to inform you about their opportunities and organization. These are part of the interview process so it is very important to attend.

Day of the Interview
  • Arrive at the Career Services office (BSC 207) 10-15 minutes before your interview.
  • Leave any items that you do not want to take into the interview with the Career Services staff.
  • Bring additional resumes and an official transcript to your interview.
  • Dress professionally.

After the Interview
  • At the conclusion of the interview, be sure to ask the company how they will follow-up.
  • Send a thank-you note within 24-48 hours of your interview.
  • Contact Career Services if you receive a job offer.
  • Ethical standards require that you withdraw from campus interviews once you have accepted a job offer from an employer.
  • Career Services considers signing up for an interview a serious commitment. Be punctual. If an emergency prevents you from interviewing, please notify Career Services (417-625-9343) as soon as possible so the recruiter can be promptly notified.
  • Recruiters are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner, which includes asking only appropriate and legal questions.
  • Recruiters are expected to share the university's commitment to an aggressive equal opportunity and affirmative action philosophy.

Reminder
  • You are aware that by participating in the On-Campus Interview Program, you serve as a student ambassador of Missouri Southern State University, and your behavior throughout the process impacts an employer's perception of you and of the University.
