Student Organizations in the School of Business Administration
The Robert W. Plaster School of Business Administration at MSSU hosts a number of student organizations which provide unique opportunities for leadership development, business networking, and socializing with students who have like interests. Many of our clubs engage in service learning projects, and some provide opportunity for travel. A number of clubs are open to both majors and non-majors.
Accounting Club Faculty Advisor: Jill Smith (417) 625-9593
The Accounting Club meets monthly during the semester in Cornell Auditorium. Meeting dates and other announcements are posted on the Accounting Club bulletin boards on the first and third floors of Plaster Hall. Dues are $10 annually or $7 per semester. The club publishes an annual Resume Book, which is distributed to accounting firms that wish to hire new graduates. The 2008 - 2009 book is available by contacting the club advisor. Application.
Investment Club Faculty Advisor: Brian Nichols (417) 625-9599
The Investment Club meets monthly during the semester, with meeting dates and other events posted on the Investment Club bulletin board on the third floor of Plaster Hall. Dues are $10 per year, or $7 per semester. Club members visited Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange in 2008, and have plans to travel to Chicago in 2009 to visit the financial markets, meet with analysts, and tour a selection of corporate headquarters. The club is affiliated with the national Financial Management Association and is supported, in part, by contributions from the regional business community. Application.
International Business Club Faculty Advisor: J. Chris Moos (417) 625-9703
The International Business Club meets monthly during the semester and is open to any student with an interest in International Business. In the summer of 2008, it organized a trip to China to study that country’s transition to a market economy. Participants toured the facilities of Carthage-based Leggett & Platt, Inc., and Wal-Mart. In the summer of 2009, the club is sponsoring a trip to Germany.
Delta Epsilon Chi Faculty Advisor: Scott Cragin (417) 625-9609
DEX, the society of marketing, management, and entrepreneurship, meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 12:25 p.m. in Plaster Hall. Dues are $35 per year (includes t-shirt), or $20 per semester. Check out DEX on Blackboard by clicking on your "courses" tab and then "Student Organizations" under the Course Catalog and then "Delta Epsilon Chi." Delta Mu Delta Faculty Advisor: Carla Walter (417) 625-9744
Delta Mu Delta is an international honor society in Business Administration that exists to promote higher scholarship in training for business and to recognize and reward scholastic achievement in business subjects. To be inducted in the Lambda Gamma Chapter, students must major in business and graduate in the top 20% of their class.
Phi Beta Lambda Faculty Advisor: Janet Buzzard (417) 625-9582
The newly formed MSSU chapter of PBL is gearing up for the 2008-2009 State Leadership Conference in Jefferson City. Students who place in one or more individual, team, or chapter events will qualify for the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, in June. PBL, the college level equivalent of FBLA, is open to all business majors. More information can be found on the PBL bulletin board on the second floor of Plaster Hall.
