Lions finish with six All-Americans at 2009 NCAA Div. II Track Meet

-- The Missouri Southern track and field teams sent nine individuals to the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships and five had All-American performances, with Phillip Horn in two events, completing a successful 2009 campaign.

Horn placed seventh in the decathlon to pick up his first All-American honor of the meet, and then placed sixth in the 110 meter high hurdles to earn his second. He broke the school record in the hurdles with a 14.34 in the prelims and had a 14.36 in the finals.

In day one, Emilie Mieseler placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 181 feet, three inches to earn All-American honors. Ciara Lipsey picked up her second All-American honor this year and added to her success at indoors with an eighth place finish after vaulting to a height of 12 feet, three and a quarter inches. Cortney Vie placed 11th in the hammer with a distance of 161 feet, one inch.

Kimi Shank placed second in the 10,000 meters to earn All-American honors. She completed the race in a time of 35:42.93, just four seconds out of a national championship and broke her own school record by six seconds that she had set at last year's national championships.

Kara Eckard qualified third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and earned All-American honors, while placing sixth in the finals with a time of 10:56.08.

Seth Hackney placed 15th in the shot put with a distance of 51 feet 11 inches, while Jill Weeks was 12th with a throw of 127 feet, 11 inches. Josh Mathis competed in the 3,000 meter steeple chase, but did not finish.

The women finished 15th overall, while the men were 41st. Future MIAA member Lincoln won the women's title, while St. Augustine's took home the men's title.
