Lipsey named MIAA Field Athlete of the Week

Kansas City, Mo.
-- Missouri Southern pole vaulter Ciara Lipsey has been named the MIAA's Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Lipsey, a 5-8 native of Wichita, Kansas, is a graduate of Maize High School.

Lipsey, who already owns the MSSU indoor pole vault record, captured the outdoor record this weekend as she vaulted to a first place finish with a height of 12-05.50 at the PSU Gorilla's Classic. That height bested the previous Southern mark held by Erica Culver by one full inch. She also broke the Prentice Gudgen Track record in the event and provisionally qualified for nationals.

It is the top vault in the MIAA this season and fourth-highest in division II.

The Lions will be back in action next weekend as the Lions will send a contingient of athletes to both the KU Relays in Lawrence, Kan., as well as the John McDonnell Invitational at the University of Arkansas.
