Lions pick up two more All-American performances in final day

. -- The Missouri Southern Lions picked up two more All-American performances today giving the men's and women's teams six total as Jacob Williams and Russell Ellis both earned the honor in the pole vault in the final day of the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Williams (Chanute, Kan.) and Ellis (Caddo Gap, Ark.) both placed tied for sixth in the pole vault with a height of 16 feet, giving the Lions three points to their overall team total of 11 on the day. Both opened up with a clear of the bar at 16 feet, but failed to hit the second height of 16 feet, four inches. The Southern men's point total of 11 placed them 19th overall.

The Lion women didn't score any more points on day two, but still finished the meet with 22 points, good enough for 11th place overall. Jessica Self (Neosho, Mo.) was 14th in the discus, while Cortney Vie (Lone Jack, Mo.) was 20th. Kara Eckard (Warrensburg, Mo.) was 12th in the 3k steeplechase, while Kimi Shank (Rolla, Mo.) was tenth in the 5k. Jill Weeks (Brownell, Kan.) was 10th in the javelin.

In total, Southern picked up six All-American's this year. Jessica Selby-Tallman in the hammer (National Champion) & shot put, Kimi Shank in the 10k, Corey Reynolds in the high jump, Phillip Horn in the decathlon and both Jacob Williams and Russell Ellis in the pole vault.
