Tallman named USTFCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

. -- Missouri Southern assistant track and field coach Jamie Tallman has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year as announced by the organization today.

Tallman saw his throwers sweep each event at this year's 2008 Outdoor MIAA Championship as Jessica Selby-Tallman won the hammer and shot put, Courtney Vie won the discus and Jill Weeks won the javelin.

Each of the above have qualified for this weeks Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pomona, California. Additionally, Jessica Self has been added to the list of competitors in the discus, joining seven other Southern athletes competing in the championships this weekend.

Tallman is in his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Lions and he has coached athletes to 44 All-MIAA performances as well as 14 All-American performances. His athletes have also broken 11 school records, erasing nearly every throwing record on the books. A 2004 graduate of Southern, Tallman was a multiple All-MIAA performer and a qualifier in the 2003 Outdoor Championships.
