Williams qualifies in the pole vault at ESU Last Chance

. -- Missouri Southern senior pole vaulter Jacob Williams vaulted to a height of 16 feet, eight inches and earned an automatic qualifying mark in the event this past weekend at the Emporia State Last Chance.

Williams finished third in the event behind Kansas' Jordan Scott and Missouri S&T's Jordan Henry. Corey Shumate was 12th. Chris Brown and Corey Reynolds finished sixth and seventh in the high jump, both finishing with a height of six feet, six and three quarters. John Isenman was seventh in the hammer at 172 feet, while Ryan Arthur was 10th in the 5k.

Erica Culver moved up the national list in the pole vault, winning the event at ESU with a height of 12 feet, four and a half inches. The mark is 14th nationally. Jessica Selby-Tallman was fifth in the hammer throw, but was the top division II finisher with a distance of 168 feet, six inches. Emilie Mieseler was eighth, while Jessica Self was 10th. Selby-Tallman and Courtney Vie finished first and second in the shot put.

Vie was sixth in the discus with Self finishing 10th, while Jill Weeks finished third in the javelin. Channell Lloyd was second in the 100m hurdles.

This was the final meet of the year before the national meet takes place on May 22-24 in Pomona, California. The list of the national qualifiers should be released later this evening.

Already qualified on the women's side are Kimi Shank in the 5k and 10k, Selby-Tallman in the shot put and hammer, Kara Eckard in the 3k steeplechase and Weeks in the Javelin. Selby-Tallman currently either shares or has the top marks in both of her events.

Shank also ranks 23rd in 3k, while Courtney Waltbillig is 25th. Culver is 14th in the pole vault, while Vie and Self are 15th and 17th in the discus. Mieseler is 27th in the hammer.

On the men's side, both Williams and Russell Ellis have qualified in the pole vault. Williams ranks 8th and Ellis is 11th. Other national rankings include TJ Britton (16th in the 800m), Aki Nummela (19th in the 1,500m), Brennan Benkert (26th in the 10k), Reynolds (15th in the high jump), Seager Wilson (27th in the pole vault) and Phillip Horn (13th in the decathlon).
