FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Selby-Tallman launches
nation's best hammer throw Joplin, Mo. -- Jessica Selby-Tallman broke her own school record she set last week at Central Missouri and shot to the top spot in Division II today as she won both the hammer and shot put at the 2008 MSSU Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational. Selby-Tallman threw the hammer 193 feet, six inches today, breaking her old record of 187-7 by nearly six feet. The mark is tops in Division II this year. Emilie Miesieler was fourth with a provisional distance of 163-06, while Jessica Self and Amanda Littlefield finished sixth in the event. Selby-Tallman picked up another automatic qualification in the shot put when she won the event with a distance of 49 feet, six and a half inches. She currently has the top throw in that event, as well. Self was second, while Erin Steffens, Courtney Vie and Mieseler were 6-8 in the shot. Littlefield was second in the discus with a distance of 130-06, while Erica Culver picked up a provisional in the pole vault and finished third. Jill Weeks won the javelin with a distance of 120 feet, while Channell Lloyd picked up two wins, taking home the title in the 100m hurdles and the triple jump. She also finished third in the 400m hurdles. Kimi Shank and Victoria Kline won the 1,500m and 3k, respectively, while Alison Walker was second in the 800m. Shannan Borgard was third in the 400m, while Danielle Oliver and Kelly McKay were sixth in the 100m and 200m, respectively. On the men's side, Jordan Patton had a good day, finishing second in the 200m and third in the 100, while anchoring the winning 4x100m relay team. TJ Britton won the 800m, while Kevin Wright was third in the 110m high hurdles. Chris Brown and Corey Reynolds finished first and second in the high jump, while Jacob Williams hit a solid provisional in the pole vault with a height of 16 feet, three and a half inches, finishing third in the event. John Isenman was fifth in the hammer and Adam Sims was seventh in the shot put. Kayla Piley and Phillip Horn will be off to Fort Hays on Sunday and Monday to compete in the MIAA Heptathlon/Decathlon and the rest of the team will be off until the MIAA Championships on May 3-4 at Northwest Missouri. |
