FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions have dominating
showing in 10k at KU Relays Lawrence, Kan. -- Kimi Shank won the event, set a new school record and garnered an automatic qualifying mark, while Brennan Benkert and Ryan Arthur were the top two collegiate performers in the men's and women's 10k last night at the KU Relays. Competing for the first time ever in the 10k, Shank ran a 35:46.44, finishing 33 seconds in front of her nearest competition. Already owning the indoor and outdoor 5k records at Southern, Shank once again broke another record of Sonia Eudy, breaking Eudy's 10k mark of 36:08.24 set in 1998 at Pittsburg State. Shank's time now gives her an automatic mark in both the 5k and 10k, and is now the top Division II time in the 10k this season. Benkert and Arthur finished third and fourth with times of 31:04.46 and 31:06.09 and were the top two collegiate performers. Benkert's time is a provisional mark. |
