Track teams take home four individual titles in day two of Radio Shack Invitational

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams took home two individual titles each in the final day of the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational today in the Legget & Platt Athletic Center.

Corey Reynolds and Derek Wright both won their respective events today. Reynolds provisionally qualified and recorded the fourth best height in Division II this season at 6-10.25 (2.09m) in the high jump. Wright won his heat in the 800m and was the overall winner with a time of 1:57.61.

Both Jacob Williams and Russell Ellis hit automatic qualifying marks in the pole vault with identical heights of 16 feet, six inches (5.03m). Williams was third, while Ellis finished fourth. Corey Shumate finished six with a provisional height of 15 feet, eight and a quarter inches (4.78m), while Seager Wilson as seventh at 15 feet, two and a quarter inches. Phillip Horn finished 12th at 14 feet, two and a half inches.

Ryan Arthur finished second in the 5k with a time of 15:27, while Anthony Reed finished 15th in the event at 16:39.95. Jordan Patton finished sixth in the 60m finals with a time of 7.06, while Kyle Davis was fifth in the mile at 4:33.72. Andrew Wright finished 15th in the 400m with a time of 52.74. Eric Bearden and Adam Sims were 12th and 14th, respectively in the shot put. Bearden threw 46 feet, nine and a half inches, while Sims had a throw of 44 feet, ten and a quarter. Horn finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8:47.

In women's action, Jessica Selby-Tallman won the shot put with another automatic qualifying mark of 51 feet, one quarter inch. Erin Steffens (41-6.50) and Jessica Self (41-3.00) were fourth and fifth, respectively, while Courtney Vie and Emilie Meiseler finished sixth and ninth. Erica Culver took home the title in the pole vault with a provisional height of 11 feet, seven and three quarter inches. Ciara Lipsey finished seventh at ten feet, eight inches.

Victoria Kline (18:30.99) and Chandra Cole (19:04.46) finished third and fifth, respectively in the 5k, while Kate Brittan was 11th at 19:38.66. Olga Bulgarova (2:25.78) and Kaitlin Wilkinson (2:36.04) were 7th and 16th in the 800m, while Krista Merrill was eighth in the mile run at 5:30.79. Stacy Borgard and Camile Brown were 11th and 13th in the 400m, while the Southern 4x400 relay team finished third at 4:03.79.

Jestine Hayes finished seventh in the triple jump at 34-10.50, while Jessie Wood was ninth in the high jump at five feet, one and three quarter inches. Earlier in the day at Arkansas, Allison Walker finished 30th in the 800m with a time of 2:16.90. The women's distance medley relay ran, but a lap count error eliminated five teams, including the Lions, in their flight of the race. 

The Lions will be back in action next weekend when both teams travel to Warrensburg to compete in the Central Missouri Invitational.
