FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Self wins both shot
put and weight throw at Mule Relays Warrensburg, Mo. -- Missouri Southern senior thrower Jessica Self won both the weight throw and the shot put, while Erica Culver and Ciara Lipsey took home the title in the pole vault as both the men's and women's track teams competed at the Central Missouri Mule Relays. Self had a provisional distance of 54 feet, one half an inch (16.47m) in the weight throw. Courtney Vie also provisionally qualified in the weight throw with a throw of 52 feet, six inches (16.00m), while Emilie Mieseler finished third with a distance of 51 feet, three quarters of an inch (15.56m). Self and Vie were first and second in the shot put, as well. Self threw a distance of 42 feet, one half an inch (12.81m) while Vie hit 40 feet, 11 inches (12.47m) with her throw. Emilie Mieseler finished fifth at 39 feet, three inches (11.96m) and Erin Steffens was eighth at 38 feet, four and a quarter inches (11.69m). Culver and Lipsey both had provisional heights of 11 feet, seven and three quarter inches (3.55m). Camile Brown was 11th in the 60m, while Kayla Piley finished 11th, as well in the 60m hurdles. Kelly McKay was sixth in the in the 200m while Stacy Borgard was eighth in the 400m. Courtney Waltbillig and Olga Bulgarova finished third and seventh in the mile run, while Carita Riuatta, Shannan Borgard and Brown were 4th, 5th, and 6th in the 600 yard. Kate Brittan was fifth in the 3k, while Chandra Cole and Krista Merrill were 7th and 11th. Jessie Wood finished 5th in the high jump, while Piley and Jestine Hayes were 15th and 16th in the long jump. Hayes finished fifth in the triple jump. In men's action, the Southern pole vaulters again showed their dominance as Jacob Williams and Seager Wilson both provisionally qualified, finishing second and third, respectively, as they both jumped 15 feet, seven inches (4.75m). Philip Horn and Corey Schumate were tied for sixth at 14 feet, seven and a quarter inches (4.45m). Assistant coach Kyle Rutledge took home the title in the vault with a height of 16 feet, six and three quarter inches. Corey Reynolds placed second in the high jump with a height of six feet, seven inches (2.01m). Phillip Horn was third in the 60m hurdles, while Jordan Patton finished 7th in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97. He was the fourth collegiate finisher. Both Horn and Patton set new school records in their events. Andrew Wright was 19th in the 200m, while Derek Wright was 14th in the mile run. Kevin Wright, Andrew Wright and Horn were 7th, 17th, and 29th, respectively in the 600 yard. Horn was 13th in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, three quarter inches, while John Isenman and Adam Sims were 11th and 15th in the weight throw and the shot put, respectively. Both teams will be back in action when Southern plays host to the Radio Shack Invitational next weekend in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. |
