Jessica Selby-Tallman Automatically Qualifies for NCAA Indoors

Fayetteville, Ark. -- Missouri Southern senior thrower Jessica Selby-Tallman finished second in the shot put at the Arkansas Invitational today with a distance of 48-10.25 inches (14.89m), automatically qualifying for the 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor National Meet.

The Lions were the only Division II team in the event, but had 14 top ten finishers today at the meet.

Selby-Tallman also provisionally qualified in the weight throw when she finished third with a distance of 54 feet, four inches (16.56m). Jessica Self finished fifth with a distance of 50 feet, four and three quarter inches, while Courtney Vie (49-2.5), Emilie Mieseler (45-8.5), and Amanda Littlefield (44-8.75) finished 6th, 7th, and 9th in the weight throw.

Courtney Vie finished 9th in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, two and a quarter inches. Self and Mieseler finished 13th and 14th in the shot. Kayla Piley and Jessie Wood both had heights of five feet and a quarter inch in the high jump, while Erica Culver (10-1-.75) and Ciara Lipsey (10-2.75) finished 16th and 21st in the pole vault.

Adam Sims had a strong showing in the shot put, finishing fourth with a distance of 45 feet five and three quarter inches. He was the only Division II thrower in the event and beat seven other Big 12 or SEC athletes. John Isenman finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 48 feet, four and a half inches, while Corey Reynolds (6-6.25) and Phillip Horn (6-2.25) finished 6th and 10th in the high jump.

Russell Ellis provisionally qualified in the pole vault, finishing fifth with a height of 16 feet, three quarter's of an inch (4.90m). Jacob Williams was sixth at 15 feet, seven inches (4.57m) and Corey Schumate finished 13th with a height of 14 feet, 5 and a quarter inches (4.40m).

The Lions will be back in action next on January 25th and 26th again at  Arkansas competing in the Razorback Invitational.
