Five new signees announced for MSSU women's track/cross country

Head coach Patty Vavra has announced five new additions to the Missouri Southern State University women's track & field/cross country program.

Ashley Bunch (Loose Creek, Mo.), Victoria Kline (Miami, Okla.), Danielle Oliver (Olivette, Mo.), Kayla Piley (Lamar, Mo.) and Ysatis Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) have announced their intentions to compete in women's track & field with the Lions.

Here is a rundown of the five new athletes for the MSSU women's track & field squad.

Ashley Bunch, 5-7, Distance/Cross Country, Loose Creek, Mo. (Linn HS)
Bunch is a three-time all-state runner in cross country, who has helped the Linn Wildcats of coach Tim Bower to top-four Class 1 team finishes in each of her four years. Bunch finished ninth at the state cross country meet as a freshman and again as a senior and in 2003 she helped the Wildcats to the state championship. Bunch is also an all-state runner in the 3200-meter run and a three-year letterwinner in basketball. She is the daughter of Joe and Margie Bunch and hopes to study nursing at Missouri Southern.

Victoria Kline, 5-7, Distance/Cross Country, Miami, Okla. (Fairland HS)
Kline, has competed in track & field and cross country for four seasons and is a three-time all-state runner in cross country. She has been an all-state runner in three track events, the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters, and she holds school records in each. Last season, Kline finished as state runner-up in both the 1600 and 3200. She has led Fairland to three straight track & field conference championships and she ran on the Oklahoma All-Star Team in 2003. Kline, the daughter of Troy and Maxanne Kline, also plays basketball at FHS.

Danielle Oliver, 5-4, Sprints/Relays/Jumps, Olivette, Mo. (Ladue-Horton Watkins HS)
Oliver, a four-year competitor at Ladue-Horton Watkins, is a seven-time all-state runner and a five-time state gold medalist. In 2005, Oliver helped the Rams to a state title and a state record in the 4x100-meter relay and also won a state title as part of the 4x400-meter squad, while LHWHS won a team championship. She was state runner-up in 2005 in the triple jump. As a freshman, she helped the 4x100-meter relay team to a state title and, as a sophomore, helped the 4x200-meter squad to a state crown. Oliver is also a USATF All-American and was the USATF regional champion in the triple jump in 2005. She is the daughter of Courtney Stroud and Charlene Brown, and hopes to major in accounting at Missouri Southern.

Kayla Piley, 5-7, Jumps/Hurdles, Lamar, Mo. (Lamar HS)
Piley is a four-year letterwinner for the Tigers and has set school-records in the triple-jump (36-4), long jump (17'-1 1/4) and 100-meter hurdles (15.67). Piley is an eight-time state medalist, including three times in the triple jump (state runner-up in 2004). She was state runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 2005 and is a three-time conference and district champion in the triple jump. Piley has also won two conference and district titles in the long jump, two district championships in the 100-meter hurdles and one district crown and two Big 8 Conference crowns in the high jump. She has also won a conference title in the 300-meter hurdles. The daughter of Mark and Brenda Piley, she was an all-state outfielder in 2005 and has also won all-district, all-region and all-conference honors on the diamond. Piley hopes to study nursing at MSSU.

Ysatis Williams, 5-9, Sprints/Relays, St. Louis, Mo. (Ladue-Horton Watkins HS)
Ysatis pronounced: EE-sah-tees
A teammate of signee Danielle Oliver, Williams has been an state champion and state record-setter in the 4x100-, 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays. Williams also competes in the 400-meter dash, in which her best time is 56.7 seconds. She was an All-American in 2005 with the Ladue Lightning in the 4x400-meter relay, contributing to that relay team's club record time of 3:46.48). She is the daughter of Locha Rowan.
