Lions announce two track signings
Ozark’s Borgard twins ink with Missouri Southern

Head coach Patty Vavra has announced two more signings for the Missouri Southern State University women’s track & field program.

Stacy and Shannan Borgard, twins from Ozark (Mo.) High School, have signed with the Lions, Vavra said.

Shannan, a four-year letterwinner in track & field for the OHS Tigers, is an all-state runner in the 800 meters. In 2004, she finished fifth in Missouri Class 3 and was named the Aldo Sebben Award winner for the Outstanding Class 3 High School Track & Field Athlete. Shannan’s best time in the 800 is a school record time of 2 minutes, 17 seconds. Stacy is also a four-year letterwinner in track & field and has excelled in high school in the 200- and 400-meter dashes.

Both Shannan and Stacy are part of school record-setting relay teams in the 4x200 and 4x400. Stacy is also part of the school record-setting 4x800-meter relay team.

Both student-athletes were also three-year letterwinners and played leading roles as post players for the Ozark High School girls basketball team, which won the Class 3 state championship in 2005. Shannan and Stacy were both named to the all-county team.

They’re daughters of Rick and Sharon Borgard, who both participated college athletics at Missouri Southern. Rick Borgard was a fullback with the football Lions from 1979-82. Sharon participated in volleyball and track & field from 1979-81.

A brother of Shannan and Stacy’s, Chris Borgard, is a fullback at Arkansas State University. Several other uncles have played college football as well. Another was an NFL official for 10 years.
