Jones captures MIAA Athlete of the Week honor

Missouri Southern State University women's track & field senior Danee Jones collected her second straight MIAA Athlete of the Week honor on Tuesday (April 12).

Jones, a 5-9 senior from Clayton, Mo., netted an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in a second event in as many weeks. This time Jones grabbed a provisonal in the discus on Saturday (April 9) at the Emporia State Relays and set a school record in the process. She recorded a throw of 159 feet, 9 inches to top Marissa Hunter's MSSU record set in 2000 by nine inches. Jones was fourth in the event, losing only to throwers from the Big 12.

A week prior, Jones grabbed her first provisional mark of the outdoor season in the hammer. She's a three-time All-America at MSSU, including a 2004 outdoor honoree in the discus.
