Jones collects second straight MIAA honor
Senior named conference athlete of the week
in women’s track & field
Missouri Southern women’s track &
field student-athlete Danee Jones (Clayton, Mo.) today was named Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association Athlete of the Week for
the second straight time, the league announced.
Jones, a 5-foot-9 senior, improved her
provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw and also earned
a provisional qualification in the shot put at the University
of Arkansas Razorback Invitational last weekend (Jan. 21-22).
She added three-quarters of an inch to her
school record in the weight throw with a third-place mark of 59
feet, 0 inches. Jones, whose newest provisional in the weight
currently leads NCAA Division II, trailed only competitors from
Arkansas and Texas A&M.
Jones was also fourth in the shot put, with
a mark of 43-9.75. She finished behind throwers from Louisiana
State, Texas A&M and Southwest Missouri State.
Jones (first name pronounced: da-NAY) is a
three-time indoor national qualifier and has won the last two
MIAA individual titles indoors in the weight throw. She was an
indoor All-American in 2003 after a third-place national
finish.
The Missouri Southern men’s and
women’s track & field teams continue their indoor
schedules this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29) at the KU
Relays.
