FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Still named to Academic All-District squad
Senior advances to Academic All-America
ballot
Mary Still (Carthage,
Mo.), a senior on the Missouri Southern State University
women’s track & field squad, was named to the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic
All-District VII Team announced today.
Still was one of six student-athletes from
the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association to
collect first-team honors. As a result of being named to the
first team, Still now advances to the CoSIDA Academic
All-America ballot. The Academic All-America College Division
Team for track & field/cross country will be announced on
June 22.
Still, formerly known as Mary Garrett, is a
two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America, having earned third-team
honors in 2001 and first-team accolades last year. This is the
third time that she has been selected for first-team CoSIDA
Academic All-District honors.
This past weekend, Still collected her
sixth career All-America honor by finishing as runner-up in the
400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track &
Field Championships. It marked the third time in four years
that Still has been national runner-up in the event.
She’s a 24-time All-MIAA performer
and a six-time conference champion. Also a finalist for the
MIAA’s Ken B. Jones Award, honoring the league’s
student-athletes of the year, Still graduated with honors last
month with degrees in psychology and English. She ended with a
3.981 grade-point average for her undergraduate career.
The winners of the Ken B. Jones Award will
be announced at a banquet tonight in Kansas City, Mo. Still is
one of three female finalists from around the league vying for
the coveted honor.
