Team
Tennis student-athletes named on ESPN The
Magazine District 7 squad
Missouri Southern State University tennis
student-athletes Lacey McMunn (Parsons, Kan.) and Barb
Gombosi (Maribor, Slovenia)
have been selected for the 2005 ESPN The Magazine College
Division Women’s At-Large Academic All-District VII
squad.
By virtue of being named to the Academic
All-District squad, both McMunn and Gombosi advance to the
national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America
consideration.
McMunn, who graduated earlier this month
with a degree in elementary education, maintained a perfect 4.0
GPA while at Missouri Southern. This season, she turned in a
10-8 won-lost record at No. 3 singles and was 13-7 in No. 2
doubles with partner Kristen Meschede. In 2005, McMunn earned
All-MIAA laurels for the third time in four years with the
Lions, including first-team mention for the second time.
McMunn, on the Academic All-District team
for the third straight year, was a third-team Academic
All-America selection last year. She’s a three-time
Academic All-MIAA performer and a four-time MIAA Presidential
Scholar.
Gombosi was Southern’s No. 1 player
in singles, posting a 14-9 ledger. She was 18-11 in No. 1
doubles and earned All-MIAA accolades for the second year in a
row. She has a career 25-13 singles record and a 39-19 doubles
mark at MSSU.
In the classroom, Gombosi, a psychology
major, maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA. She will earn Academic
All-MIAA honors for the second straight year and will also be
named to the MIAA Presidential Scholars list for the second
time.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a
varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of
3.20 on a scale of 4.0, must have reached sophomore athletic
and academic standing at his/her current institution and be
nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the
program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic
All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in
