Six Lions on All-MIAA Women’s Tennis Team
Senior Lacey McMunn nets first-team honor

Missouri Southern State University placed six women’s tennis players on the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association team announced Tuesday (April 26).

Senior Lacey McMunn (Parsons, Kan.) earned first-team All-MIAA honors for the second time in her four-year career at MSSU. McMunn earned first-team honors at No. 3 singles after posting a 10-8 record in 2004-05.

McMunn, a three-year all-conference performer, was also a first-team pick in singles play as a sophomore in 2003.

Two Southern freshmen, Michelle Hall (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Ashton Lawrence (Parsons, Kan.), earned second-team honors for their singles play. Hall finished 15-7 this year at No. 2 singles. Lawrence went 14-7 as the Lions’ No. 6 singles player.

Sophomore Barb Gombosi (Maribor, Slovenia) was an honorable mention selection at No. 1 singles after posting a 14-9 ledger in 2004-05.

Each Missouri Southern doubles team also netted honorable mention. The No. 1 unit of Gombosi and Hall turned in an 18-11 record, while McMunn and sophomore teammate Kristen Meschede (Grain Valley, Mo.) were 13-7 in No. 2 doubles. Lawrence and sophomore Erin Fritz (Kimberling City, Mo.) were 8-15 on the year as the Lions’ primary No. 3 squad.

Gombosi and Meschede earned All-MIAA accolades for the second straight year. Gombosi was a first-teamer in 2004, while Meschede was a second-team honoree for singles xand an honorable mention pick in doubles last season.

The Lions finished 8-11, including 3-3 in the MIAA, in 2004-05.
