Four tennis Lions claim MIAA honor
Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for tennis announced

Four members of the Missouri Southern State University women’s tennis team earned spots on the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll that was released today by the conference.

Seniors Kim McMunn (Parsons, Kan.), Sheryl Posch (Parsons, Kan.) and Amy Stredney (Abilene, Kan.), along with junior Lacey McMunn (Parsons, Kan.), were named to the honor roll.

Kim McMunn posted a 15-3 won-lost record in No. 4 singles this year for the Lions  and also combined with freshman Barb Gombosi for a 21-9 mark in No. 2 doubles. McMunn, who holds a 3.944 grade-point average in general studies, is the mother of Lacey McMunn. Kim McMunn was a first-team All-MIAA selection in 2004.

Posch turned in a 10-12 mark as Southern’s No. 1 singles player this season and went 16-11 at No. 1 doubles with Lacey McMunn. Posch was twice named MIAA Player of the Week and was an honorable mention all-conference pick. She has a 3.083 GPA in marketing and is the daughter of Timothy and Jane Posch, MSSU’s head tennis coach.

Stredney maintains a 3.974 average as a marketing major. She finished the 2004 campaign with a 10-8 record in No. 6 singles and went 16-10 in No. 3 doubles with partner Kristen Meschede, a freshman. Stredney, the daughter of Garry and Rebecca Stredney, was an honorable mention All-MIAA choice.

Lacey McMunn carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in elementary education. She completed the most recent season with a 7-11 record in No. 2 singles and went 16-11 in doubles with Sheryl Posch. McMunn, daughter of Terry and Kim McMunn, was an honorable mention all-league pick this year and is on track for her third MIAA Presidential Scholar honor.

Student-athletes are named to the list under the following criteria: 1.) The student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; 2.) The student-athlete must have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer sessions; 3.) The student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior in athletic eligibility; 4.) Student-athletes inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification are not eligible.

A total of 21 women’s tennis student-athletes from six MIAA institutions were named to the 2004 MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
