Posch earns player of the week honor

Four Missouri Southern State University spring sports student-athletes, including tennis senior Sheryl Posch (Parsons, Kan.), earned Wilson/MIAA Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday, the MIAA announced.
Posch, a 5-foot-6 senior, went 1-1 in No. 1 singles and 1-1 with partner Lacey McMunn in No. 1 doubles for the Lions last week.
Posch picked up a straight-sets win over Southwest Baptist’s Melanie Cook, 6-1, 6-2, on Wednesday (March 24). She and McMunn, the No. 24-ranked doubles team in Division II, according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association list, downed Cook and Valerie Jones, 8-2, to lead the Lions to their third straight MIAA victory, 9-0.
She gave Northeastern (Okla.) State’s Holly McKee a battle before falling, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 on March 22. Posch and McMunn lost to McKee and Berit Itschert in doubles, 8-2, as MSSU fell to the Lady Reds, 7-2.
Posch, the daughter of Lions tennis coach Jane Posch, also ranks 10th in the North Central Region in singles. As a team, Southern improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA.
Sheryl Posch is a graduate of Parsons High School.
Others to win the award on March 31 included sophomore softball pitcher Amy Schneider (Garland, Texas), sophomore pole vaulter Matt Campbell (Worthington, Ind.) for men’s track & field, and junior thrower Danee Jones (Clayton, Mo.) for women’s track & field.
